Lauren's textile collection is based on her own hand drawn designs. Inspired by natural elements and the wildflowers and weeds she has loved since childhood, each textile tells a story. Printed on 100% linen.
Q: Can I view your fabrics in person?
A: You can order memos of any of our fabrics for $5 each or visit our showroom, Lauren Liess & Co. in Great Falls, Virginia. We are in the process of working with representatives and showrooms across the US to carry our line & will be updating the website soon with a list of available showrooms and reps. We always recommend either ordering a memo or seeing the fabric in person before purchasing yardage due to variations in color in computer monitors.
Q:Is every piece of fabric exactly the same?
A:Because of the nature of our eco-friendly printing process (which uses water vs. harsh chemicals) slight variations will occur with our textiles. We have designed our fabrics with this in mind and many of our designs have a slightly mottled quality to give the appearance of age & patina. We believe that this is what makes them unique & beautiful.
Q: What is the width of your fabric?
A: 54" wide
Q: Are your fabrics suitable for upholstery?
A: Like many 100% linen printed fabrics, our textiles are best suited for light-use upholstery vs. heavy-use upholstery if you are looking for a "brand-new" look. Our eco-friendly inks do not penetrate the fabric fibers as deeply as some other types of inks, and heavy abrasion can eventually wear through the design. We do not recommend them for heavy use upholstery unless you are designing with this in mind and are looking to give an upholstered piece some age & vintage-character. (Those fabrics with lighter backgrounds are better suited to resist the appearance of abrasion and we love this look. Those fabrics with darker backgrounds will show more wear.)
Q: Are your fabrics washable?
A: Our fabrics will change when washed, and due to the nature of natural linen, with even the very first washing. (Fibers loosen, and it takes on a patina & fades slightly, which we love.) If you do decide to wash your fabrics, be sure that this is the look you're after. The fabrics were designed with this look in mind & we believe that our fabrics get better with age & time & wear and we like them better when washed, but the preference is personal, so whether you wash is up to you. We recommend washing in cold on “gentle" with a gentle linen wash and drying on low or no heat so as to not break the linen's fibers. The designs that change the most when washed are those with colored backgrounds (vs. those with white/ cream backgrounds.) Most of the fabrics pictured on this website have been washed. If you order a memo, it will not come washed. You can wash your memo to determine which look you prefer.
Q: Can I use your fabrics on curtains? Will they fade in the sun?
A: Our fabrics are very sun-resistant and are perfect for curtains.
Q: Can the fabrics be used in commercial settings?
A: If you are looking to use our fabrics in a commercial setting, need flame-retardant qualities or want to apply the fabrics to heavy-use furniture, please inquire about post-treatments that can be applied to the fabrics.
Q: Do you sell your fabrics direct to the trade?
A:Yes, we do. If you are an interior designer or retailer, please send a copy of your resale license and contact information to firstname.lastname@example.org so we can open your account.
